I’ll be in Kauai mid October. I’m planning on doing a couple of unguided of shore dives at Koloa Landing followed by a couple of days of boat dives.

I haven’t found too much info on diving Koloa unguided. Wondering if anyone has any advice, maps, etc. I do lots of unguided diving in California (mostly Monterey/carmel area) so am comfortable diving unguided.

Will likely rent tanks/weights from Fathom Five. I’m assuming they might have some advice too.

I dive there when i stay at my uncle's condo (next door to the cove). If you go west, it is pretty straight forward reef structure tapering to sand ..... you will find some finger reefs in 50' as you get further from the cove.

If you follow the reef straight out it gets deeper and a little more interesting. I think the max depth i found in my swimming distance was about 70'. I saw an eagle ray and some small tuna chasing bait on my last dive.

I see dive boats anchoring far out on the east side but i have never found any lava tubes or any other distinguishing features in swimming distance.

I don't think they are doing Sheraton Caverns (further east based on my understanding) but i would assume there must be something interesting to see if boats go there regularly.

I'm hoping some locals chime in ... i would like to hear their input.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info.

We’ll likely head down the western reef and maybe spend a little time on the sand doing drills.
