Hello,
Quick question.... 3mm full or 5mm full? I am going diving for a week in Key Largo in the middle of February and curious if I should go out and buy a 5mm or dive with the 3mm I already own. What are the water temps during February.

Thanks,

Danny

Last year, the water temp was 72 in Feb. I did it in a 3mil john/jacket and a 1mil hooded vest, and was fine.

I have seen it 64° in February..The boat trip out & back can be brutal if the sun is behind clouds & the wind is blowing.

A hooded vest or a Henderson Core Warmer over the 3mm should work. Check out LP.

64F and I'm gonna be using my drysuit!

I have experienced water temps 65-72 as others have noted. I tend to get cold easily, and do a lot of dives, so I wear a 5mm full and hooded vest. So it depends on your susceptibility to cold, how many divers you are planning, how much time between dives to warm up, or cool down further if it is chilly etc.

I always err on the side of being warm, because you have options, like letting a little water in. Once you are cold, you're cold and that is an increased DCS risk.

Have fun...I'm jealous!

I don't know about Key Largo in February, but I dove there last year in early April and wore a 5 mil fullsuit with gloves. I wasn't hot, just comfortable. So if I was diving there in Feb. I would throw my hooded vest in the bag just to make sure I was warm.

I was in Marathon last February and the water temps were 68 degrees at 80'. All of us were wearing 5mils on the first dive with a 3mil shorty over that on the second dive and it was comfortable. Definitely leave the wetsuit on for the ride back it was chilly even when the sun was out, as the Captain stated above.

Have fun :biggrin2: , I wouldn't mind the Keys again in February but chose to do Bonaire next month instead.

Thanks for all your feedback. Narrowed it down to two suits. 5mm Henderson Gold Core with a 3mm Hooded Vest, or the Henderson semi-dry suit. Which one do you think would be the best?
