I have to drive up to Kennebunk to renew my drivers license next week. Since it's gonna take me 3 hours:yuck: I might as well snoop around. Any dive sites there I ought to do some recon on?

Absolutley, in Kennebunkport, St Ann's Beach is a hidden jewel. It shows up here: http://www.shorediving.com/Earth/USA_East/Maine/ Colony Beach, just before you get to St. Ann's is a nice forgiving spot that always pleases me. Just past the Bush Ccmpound is another spot that I have yet to dive, the wreck of the Wandby. I did skin-dive there a few time and it has neat bottom structure.

Across the river iis Middle beach in Kennebunk A nice sheltered spot with a clay reef.

Many others both north and south.

Anyone dive on or around Acadia & what is to be expected. I am heading up there in may for a few days. Any pics?

I have not made scuba dives there. In 2004 my wife and I spent a week skin-diving the region. PLenty of wonderful access sites for shore diving galore. Bonaire of the north.

Only catch is a lack of dive shops. Last I knew the Bar Harbor shop was gone. Bass Harbor Campground caters to divers and this link includes a dive shop reference:

Little Hunter beach, Lamoine Beach (end of the road past the state park), Bernard beach. Up on the Schoodic part of the park: Out to Rolling Island and Pond Island. Wondrland is nice too but it is a hike in.

Compared to southern Maine the bottom life just skindiving was 10 times as intense. We easilly found huge starfish in many colors, Urchins, Sea Cucumbers etc. etc. And this was all just skin-diving. I can't wait to spend some time diving up there.

Also since most of it is up in the bays and in and around islands shore conditions were also pretty nice.

If I had top pick one.... wow this is hard....
Easiest and still nice: Lamoine beach or Bernard Beach
Lots of life (but a long stairway down) Little hunter beach on the park loop road
Also a pic: The schoodic peninsulla sites I mentioned.

Don't miss the chance.

Acadia has many cool spots when the visibility is decent. Be careful of strong tidal currents, and make sure you can still get out of the water if the tide drops 2 feet during a dive. If I was unsure of the conditions, I would always snorkel the site first. You can scramble up and down rocks a lot easier with no tank on. I only dove it during the summer, May will be cold!

I would look for easy access areas that have good vertical relief above the water.

i thought you where from florida?
