Except briefly during the hang, I don’t clip the double-ender to the spool. No matter which way it’s clipped, there’s a moderate chance of it unhooking itself; higher if the other end is clipped to a rigid ring. instead, pull the end a loop of the line out through a spool hole and clip to that.
Same thing if it’s pre-rigged, except pull a loop through the spool hole.
