Wow, the guy is grossly overweight and shouldn't even be diving. Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make a stop at the Cardiac Cath Lab, while he's in the hospital. Seriously though, The county's only trauma helicopter was not available for anyone else while taking care of this individual. Imagine if a child in an accident had to be airlifted?

Buddy, you don't know what you're talking about. Randy is a powerhouse. Few divers can keep up with him when he puts on the gas. And speaking of gas, he doesn't use any. His SAC rate is about as low as it can be for a male diver.

I guess you haven't been diving very long. I know several divers shaped like Randy that are exceptionally powerful swimmers, and outstanding divers.

I'll second that regarding some of the girthier guys I've dove with. No need to bring extra judgement and misinformation into a situation that's already fortunate... Unless you theorize sharks don't bite skinny guys like me?

I've known quite a few captains who, if they don't think you're up to snuff, won't let you on the boat. As far as I'm concerned, that's their right.

Boats like that tend to be exclusive, and maybe the only boat going to where they do, doing what they do, and they don't need someone along who doesn't fit in with the plan. So, maybe you can find another ride, and maybe you can't. I know folks on the boats full list for any decent boat from Block Island to Key West, and yes, we do talk to each other. There really is a boat's full list.

I've seen him kindly escort a tech diver wannabe off of his boat. It was awesome. We were doing a 200ft dive to see a Hellcat that day. The guy had a card, but he was not ready for that dive. Randy saved that guy's life that day. Pissed or not, he's still alive.
