JDC has only one date in April for the wreck trek.

That 1st week of april is a peak time for Tigers on the wrecks but you really need to scan the 'furtherest edge of your viz' because they won't come in unless it's something they want. The last week of April,,, not so much for the kittens.

Two actually. 4/6 and 4/27. They typically hit it 2-4 times a month historically. Kyalami pretty much never does unless explicitly requested. No clue why.

Sorry, you're correct, JDC only has one scheduled during the 2 weeks I'm going to be there.

As far as why they only have 2 per month, and Kyalami only schedules upon request, and Scuba Works has only 1 per month, without knowing for sure, it's a fair guess that there's no demand for it.

Most recreational divers prefer reefs to wrecks. I'll never understand why.

JDC double dipped the Wreck Treck on Friday. Kyalami goes there a fair bit this time of year too.

The problem with the Jupiter wreck treck is that with a fast current the dives can be pretty quick since there isn’t anything to see other than sand.

I just heard back from Pura Vida a few hours ago. In response to my inquiry where I pointed out there are no wreck dives on their April calendar, they said exactly this:

So excited to hear that you will be in the area early April! I took a look at our calendar with the dates you have provided. There are some deep charters on the calendar that go to the deep reefs and wrecks, including the ones you mentioned. Here is the 2 Tank Charter Calendar. The dive sites are based on weather and conditions so there is no guarantee we can visit any specific site on a charter. However, I can add a note requesting specific dive sites onto your reservation once it is finalized that way the captain can see if it is doable.

I recall in the past they've listed wreck dives on their calendar. Now they don't (at least for April) and they aren't making any promises.

They do deep & shallow. Many times the deep dives are on wrecks, but not always. Just depends upon conditions and where the other boats are already.

As stated previously, no, they don't. In fact it wasn't even on their schedule for April until I inquired about it.



As with most wrecks you can find places to get out of the current and spend more time on them.

Just let them know if you have a preference. I can assure you Kyalami out of Jupiter has no preconceived plans until they’ve left the dock. Let one of the crew know your preference.

JDC will dive the wrecks oftentimes when they’ve listed Lemon Sharks, Goliaths, etc as the name of the dive. But a call to them in advance would be helpful.

None of the charters in West Palm or Jupiter will guarantee anything, that I’m aware of.

I understand that there can never be a rock solid guarantee because weather can always be a factor.

I'm just looking for a charter that will plan to go to the wrecks unless it's not possible because of the conditions. Kyalami has stepped up and done that for me, and there are dive Ops in the Key and at least one in Pompano that does "divers choice" for the first person who books a dive on a particular date.

I still am waiting to hear back from 2 other West Palm dive ops, (Walkers & Pirates) with whom I've dived with before. I'm not familiar with Stuart Scuba but they've got a wreck dive on their April calendar.

Can’t speak with as much authority about them, but I’ll bet Walkers Dive Charters will take care of you. I highly recommend them as well.

I much prefer reefs over wrecks because of the sealife. I need to get into the whole history of a vessel to get excited about it and that’s usually last on the prep list. So, the result is I do the wreck with the hope I see big fishies on it. I need a wreck the size of the Oriskany to get fired up about the colossal man-made steel structure.

My favorite dive profile is a boat drop, trimix, coral wall and a DPV. Add in a school of HHs (or other sharks) cruising by and I’ll probably become catatonic.

Agreed. The wrecks from Palm Beach to Jupiter (with a couple exceptions) aren’t historically interesting wrecks. They’re hunks of metal that are disintegrating into debris fields that attract fish.
