Nereas

Yep, clear as a bell.

I appreciate your attention to safety and detail. I hope this stalwart conviction of yours never gets tested. I wonder if your conviction would be the same if for whatever reason you had second guesses about “having done everything in your power”. Diving, as with other dangerous sports, creates all kinds of situations where one might have doubts in retrospect.

Nonetheless, I think your attention to safety is commendable.

Cheers!

Gentelmen, there is a time and a place for everything...this is neither. Please keep on topic. Please be mindfull of friends and family and others who have been and are continuing to be affected by this incident.

Please note: Speculation and allot of people who think there a part time reporter, do not realize the damage that there doing to a) Family members involved b) the” innocent” (Until prove guilty) people involved, weather as a bystander or actively apart of the rescue c) and yes now a days a "legal point".
Yes freedom of speech is for all, but come on… get the facts FIRST speculation and what you think are otherwise known as rumers / storys. So if you were not their or involved with the investigation "then don't speculate / comment".:no
We should let Dr Ken Kurtis complete his examination, let the investigating team come up with a conclusion then discuses what happened and learn from any potential error by diver(s)/equipment (both) or freak environment conditions etc. What i would like to see is a freedom to access investigation final report(s)...THATs when we can discuss what they should/should not have done something to prevent in inccident.

made for it,

I wonder if there is are any official findings available to the public? It's been 12 weeks or so.

Hi Scott: thank you for your inquiry as to the June 29 scuba death of my dear brother-in-law. Can you believe that we just got the "completed" coroner's report yesterday?!? I use the term completed in a loose fashion. There was no LASD report ( a summary report was signed two days after the accident and ofcourse no LASD report would be available but after all this time you think someone might have thought to include it), no interview with the group that was suppose to be with him. Really frustrating. I know for a fact that Ken Kurtis did a report on the equipment and that is AWOL also. So we are now scrambling to gather the reports necessary to piece together what happened, we still don't know.

I do hope you get all the information. It's a tough situation and I feel for you and the family.

Here's a thought:

As a diving community, we know very little at this point. I am the Forensic Consultant for the LA Corner and I have only very sketchy info at this point (12 hours or so after the accicent). How about if we pledge to stop speculating? If you have some direct first-hand information, I'd be happy to hear it. (Please contact me directly at 310/652-4990.) Realize it takes us a while (4-8 weeks) to fully assemble the picture of what might have happened. Give us some time to do our jobs. But if you've got pertinent info, relay it through the proper channels.

And just so everyone knows, one of things we've been grappling with for a while is how to better inform the diving community of the results of these cases. The Coroner's reports are public information which means you can request them. Chamber info is considered private because it's like being treated at a hospital. So we're still working on doing a better job in this area while still respecting privacy.

Heres a thought: How about coming on SB and announcing it to everyone especially the family? Most certainly them before us.

While we are quite used to not knowing the final results you did speak of grappling with a way to let the diving community know. So here ya go...:idk:

Ken,
How about a rule that we can speculate after 8 weeks. :shocked2: If there is no pressure to report in a timely manor, you won't report! Typical government bureaucracy. Next thing you know we won't be able to dive Nitrox

I was not under the impression that he made rules here. I value his input and respect his suggestions, but I'm speculating in full spirit of the Stickied Special Rules of the forum. We learn a lot from speculations here even if they may not be the actual case for the accident, but we have an Accident Analysis forum with no speculations. This ain't it.
