A couple of last-minute cancellations mean that there are some seats available for three days of diving in the Straits of Mackinac over the holiday weekend. This is about as good as it gets for freshwater recreational diving, with lots of wrecks, gorgeous views and plenty of activities to fill the non-diving hours. We’ll be diving from the Rec Diver, a 42 ft trawler outfitted for diving with plenty of room for everyone.

Sites will be determined by the weather and group vote, but you can count on me having a hissy fit if we don’t get to the Eber Ward and the William Young. Other popular sites likely to be visited include the Cedarville and the Sandusky.

Cost is $240.00 for the three days of two tank diving. You will need to provide all of your own gear, including tanks and weights. Air fills are available in St. Ignace, EAN and TMX are not. We’re going out with Straits Scuba, you can check out their website for more information about diving with them and the area.

We’ve also got a few rooms locked in at the Best Western Harbour Pointe in St. Ignace. Nice place, pool, special rate of $99 per night, or you can make your own arrangements wherever you'd rather.

This is advanced diving, if you aren’t trained and experienced with diving in deep, cold water with occasional fast currents and rough water, this isn’t the dive for you. We're expecting sunny skies and flat calm, but that doesn't always happen. ;)We have a mix of advanced recreational divers and technical divers on this trip, so nobody will feel left out. If your training includes decompression training, some in the group are definitely planning on some longer bottom times. Others in the group will be staying within NDL’s. A drysuit is strongly recommended – at 40F on the bottom, it’s just too dang cold for wetsuits.

If you’re interested, PM me.

Have a blast, Steven! Wish I could make it but I've got a job now (gasp!) and can't make it.

I'm diving with Abyss on the 2,3,4.... I believe were a.m. all 3 days, which means afternoons will be spent out in the patio of the Driftwood.....

Hopefully we'll get to meet...
