I was cleared to dive one year after my neck fracture with fusion/plate. I would talk with a doctor through DAN if I were you. Honestly, don't know about joint replacement but logically think it will be OK, just check to make sure.
I was cleared for any diving and have since done fine, with deep and or on the verge of some technical level diving.
This is not the same as joint replacement but integrity of bony spaces and the amount of soft tissue disruption is similar.

You mentioned getting fins on and off. I had both hip joints replaced five years ago. The best diving investment I have made is my spring fin straps. Get the ones with the finger loop to make them easy to grab.

@Dr. Tracy :) Thank you. I've actually talked with my ortho and DAN and both of course say know your limits and dive your limits.

@herbdb I've had my Mares quattro fins now for about a year, doing pretty good with them in the water and they aren't too difficult to unclasp with the quick release straps. I have learned not to borrow fins ^_^
