@Tobin - instead of posting something that doesn't help me. Could you elaborate on what I should of done differently, I've read some really great posts from you in the past but this one just confuses me. P.S. Thanks for the gear.

More training is what I suggested. That would have helped more than anything else. You had a line to your float. Should have made holding 10 or even 20 ft ft indefinitely easy to do. The NDL at 20 ft are loooong.

Solo deco dives? Another thing I would not recommend.

There we go something I can work with, Thanks! - I'm pretty sure I won't make these same mistakes again. Now that I think about it, going back down was not the smartest thing I've ever done. The only reason I didn't have a buddy is because every single time I use a buddy they end up not following our dive and it's basically like being without one. Maybe someday I'll get a good one, or at least one that won't abandon me.

Well no, it was definitely Pensacola yahoos.............. making their town proud.

This is frightening - I was kind of hoping you would say it was a fluke and it probably wouldn't happen again.

Personal Protection Device/Power Head.

I'm not advocating that. But clearly PWC and boat operators are in violation of the law by operating within a dive flag territory which if they killed someone would damn near be murder in my book. But more likely a negligent manslaughter. Does that justify shooting the hull of a vessel? I don't know. I could see a jury siding with the diver. Vessel strikes and propeller injuries are nasty.

A guy back in high school died from a prop, not before getting completely shredded and having limbs severed. Scary stuff knowing there's very little boater education.

Oh, Pensacola...We get a lot of tourist here so what you had were probably some folks from Michigan on vacation that thought your flag made for a nice turn marker.

I'd just choose one or the other. No reason to do both.
Pretty much.

What was all that gas in? I think maybe I'd just take off my gear and send it up first. And really hope one of them hit it.
2 overfilled LP85 steel tanks. I don't know how well that would work out lol...

It makes me sad to think I'm from Michigan - land of mandatory boating classes but people still don't know how to drive a PWC correctly.

Yankees.
Definitely Yankee "Tour-ons".
I'm sorry.......
Clearly an explanation may be in order.

It is the tradition of my family that any state that was not in the Confederacy, or was admitted to the Union after the "War of Northern Aggression", is considered to be a "YANKEE State".

Chug
NOT a Yankee.
More Chinese really.

This is still my favorite idea :D
I know an instructor down here who swears he did spear a jetski once for circling the dive flag ...can't say if it was true.

Aside from boaters intentionally violating dive flag laws the really scary thing is those boat operators who simply aren't paying attention or run their boats on autopilot. This freediver's kayak took a hit likely from a boat on autopilot.

Boat strikes are not a pretty sight that's for sure. Here's a fatal strike caught on video. Warning, video is a little graphic. LiveLeak.com - Nasty diving accident. Swimmer is hit by prop from a passing boat. (comments)

Every state really should consider a mandatory boating safety course if you intend on driving a boat or pwc. For me in Florida, I am self taught because they started requiring a boater safety course that applies to anyone born after January 1, 1988. Which means there are a ton of boaters and tourist who vacation to Florida who do not have any education on boating/pwc safety and dive flag laws. I'm not sure what the law is regarding companies who rent pwc to tourists while on vacation, but they really need to have a mandatory briefing before they're given control of any vessel, regardless of the operators age.

I do like the fact Florida now offers high school credit for taking a safety course. Florida Boating Safety and Education
