Dive Site: MONTAGE RESORT (Treasure Island) Laguna Beach
Dive Time: 10:01 57:30 min dive
Max Depth 33 FSW Average Depth 23 SSW
Waves – large one might have been 4 inches
Surge – None
Visibility 30 feet easy.
Water Temp: 55 SUUNTO Degrees Air Temp 59 degrees
Parked in the parking garage and used the stairs. Entered the water in front of the stairs. Sand bottom drops off steeply and we were in 10 feet of water in about 25 feet from shore. Swam out to the reef on the right on a heading of 235 degrees. Spotted the usual suspects. Saw 6 large Bat Rays in about 25 FSW over the sand. Just a great dive.

Date: 10 Jan 04 10:36 a.m. to 11:19 a.m. 43:30 minutes dive time.
Site: Corral Beach, Malibu
Max Depth 39 Ft. Average Depth 30 Ft.
Dive Time: 43:30 minutes Air used: 39.5 CuFt
Visibility: 10 - 12 feet, 15 maybe) out at 39 feet.
Weather: 1-2 foot waves with the occasional 3 ft. Sunny and comfortable. Air 59 Suunto Degrees. Water at depth: 55 Suunto degrees (felt more like 52-54).

Entered at the usual entry point opposite the big storm drain under the road near the house. We swam way out as the divers who were just leaving reported poor vis in depths under 15 feet. Estimated we were about 120-150 yards off shore (or more). Dove down and went generally East parallel to the shore for a long way. Nothing but sand. Then went out to sea a bit more and then swam back at an angel to very near our entry point. Hit a few patches of kelp with lots of fish. Other than that we saw sand, and more sand. But a good dive just the same.

Went to Marineland. Waves 4-6 at the point and no real lull between sets. Rocky beach was 2-4 ft waves. I took a pass on the dive others did not.

I then took a dingy out to the Los Angeles Beakwater. Vis 6-10 feet, and about 2 ft surge. Not a great day for diving, but not bad either.

I dove Fishermans cove in Laguna Just in between Shaw's and Divers Cove. This was my 1st local shore dive in quite a few years so I don't have anything to compare it too. Not much Kelp but still a good # of fish and other Sea Life. Lots of Nudibranch's (Mis-spelled?) Visibility was around 30ft. All and all a decent dive. pat

Despite ominous swell warnings earlier in the week, it was a bright, calm sunny day in Avalon yesterday. My buddies and I did two dives:

1st dive -- we visited the Cousteau monument on our way to the Sue Jac. Yes, Oscar is alive and well. 78 ft max, 35 min, 57 degrees. Viz about 40 feet, depending upon where in the park. There were a few classes around, and an outgoing tide made the exit interesting.

After our surface interval, on our second dive we went the other way to a pile of smaller wrecks, then headed back and puttered around nearer to the wall. 64 ft max, 34 min, 57 degrees.

Seas were flat for our trip home.

Yukon Wreck, San Diego
Max Depth 102' average 75'
20-25' vis
Big surges
Temp. 53 at 100
2 dives, each 40 minutes

We arrived at the moorings above the Yukon about 730am on Saturday. No wind with swells at 6 feet at 16 seconds :) This was my first wreck dive and I had no idea what to expect. What a blast! We started our first dive at the bow bouy and made our way all over the ship. Tons of funky sea life growing on it. We made it all the way to the props/driveshaft on the first dive.
Next dive was with doubles. We descended on the mid ship mooring. This dive we penitrated midship and practiced tying off and running a line. Navigation is easy because of all the exit holes cut in the hull. What an experience that was, being inside this ship. I found a brand new weight belt 30' inside the wreck, it had no growth on it, must have been dropped the previous day, scary. If anyone ditched a weight belt in the Yukon, come and get it.

Can't wait to go back!

Kyle

Edit: My new spring straps are kick ass!

wrinkles:
Did you dive the Ruby E Kyle, hehe, it is the cute boat... not the scary Yukon?

Ana

We dove the Yukon. The Ruby E is this coming Saturday.
