I've never felt the squeeze I've read about. Of those of you who use or used this type, does it squeeze you when inflated?

only if it is the wrong size and or you put strap at chest level tight..

Yep. If the BC fits, there will be no squeeze.

(Of course, if one is a bit overweight...)

Yet somehow its used as one of the reasons some divers swear against it. Apparently they were squeezed.

I would not say a uncomfortable squeeze, it is more like a tight feeling. When you get down to 126 Ffw you can feel a little squeeze. It is more when you start to ascend, use the inflator and it will be fine. I switch to the back infalted because It was the wieght belt that puts a squeeze on you. You have to tighten it or it slips down around your ankles, but once you start ascending if you do not loosen it. It is uncomfortable. I figured that if I was going to buy a weight intergrated BCD it might as well be back inflated after all I heard about them.

Squeeze? Not from my Sherwood Avid. I did try a ScubaPro Jacket that was a rib crusher but perhaps the LDS didn't set/size it right for my trial.

Biggest thing I notice is that the pockets get harder to work in when the BC is fairly inflated topside. Most imprortant stuff is out on D rings though.

Agreed that it's another one of the half truths used to promote an alternative style.

I only used a Jacket a few (maybe 4) times. At depth I didn't feel any squeeze, because there shouldn't be much air in it while diving. At the surface when inflated, even partially inflated it squeezed uncomfortably - it is likely that this was due to poor fit. My main "gripe" was not the squeeze, but the "cluttered/constricting" feeling like when wearing a suit and tie. - I think this is one of those things that is like "Back inflates throw everyone on their face when on the surface" Some people have trouble with it, and others do not... so long as you are comfortable in what you dive and have fun, that is the point of recreational diving isn't it? ;)

Aloha, Tim

I am with Spectrum and kidspot on this one.
Pockets hard to deal with while BC is inflated and That bear hug you get at the surface when inflated. It is not felt while under water because there should not be anywhere that much air in the bladder.

I have to say I've never had the squeeze either, even at the surface. That said, I've ordered a BP/W to use ALONG WITH my BC...:D

I agree with Tim 100% on this. I dove with a jacket BC for my first 10 dives after certification and absolutely hated the bulky/oversized feeling it gave me. Although I didn't go to a BP/W, I did the next best thing....a Zeagle Zena! :D
