Hmmm.... I'm not sure which forum to put this in. Steve Irwin? Sharks? Accidents? Underwater Hunting? Well, since we dont have a jackass/idiot forum, I'll post here:

Jackass crew shocked by Irwin's death
September 11, 2006 - 10:37AM

I cringe when I watch the footage of the shark scene
Steve-O, aka Stephen Glover ... "I think I'm generally going to close the book on wildlife encounters."

Steve Irwin's death has sent a shiver through some of Hollywood's bravest souls.

At least one member of the infamous Jackass stunt crew, who have a cult following with teenagers around the world, is contemplating quitting stunts with wild animals after his own near-death experience with a shark.

"I think I'm generally going to close the book on wildlife encounters," Stephen Glover, best known to Jackass fans as Steve-O, told reporters in Los Angeles.

The 32-year-old's near-miss with a hungry mako shark came while shooting a stunt in the Gulf of Mexico for the group's new feature film, Jackass Number Two, a sequel to their highly-profitable 2002 debut film, Jackass: The Movie.

The shark incident was not the only brush with death for a Jackass member while making the film, scheduled for release in Australian cinemas in November.

Jackass leader Johnny Knoxville was just centimetres away from being killed when a rocket he was sitting on unexpectedly exploded during another stunt.

The rocket was supposed to launch Knoxville 50m into the air before crashing into a lake, but it self-destructed before take-off and a 30cm long metal rod came hurtling out of the rocket.

It pierced the rocket's metal casing and just missed Knoxville's stomach.

"The rod would have gone straight through me," Knoxville, 35, said.

Glover said his stunt with sharks in the Gulf of Mexico pushed the boundary between man and nature a little too far.

He was 50km off the coast of New Orleans.

After burley was tossed into the ocean and mako and hammerhead sharks were swimming around the boat, Glover presented himself as human bait.

He pierced a hole through his cheek with a fishing hook that was attached to fishing line and a rod and then, with blood dripping from his face, jumped into the ocean.

Footage in Jackass Number Two shows a mako shark lunging at Glover's leg before he kicks it away just in time.

"I cringe when I watch the footage of the shark scene," Glover, who has tussled with alligators, snakes and other dangerous creatures for the original Jackass TV series and his other TV documentary-style show, Wildboyz, said.

The Jackass members were shocked by Irwin's death last week when a stingray barb pierced his chest while the 44-year-old was snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, admitting the Crocodile Hunter was on a "whole other level" to them.

"God bless Steve Irwin," Knoxville said.

"All the guys were really upset about that. We had so much respect and love for the guy.

"We were all talking about it and thought, 'If he's going to go it's the way he'd want to go'.

"He's got kids and that's horrible, but he was doing what he loved.

"I know it's cliche, but if there's any man who was doing what he loved it was Steve."

Knoxville, who has a young daughter, said he will keep performing madcap stunts and is working on a third Jackass film.

Despite his near-death experience on the rocket, he never lets the possibility of death enter his mind.

"You can't think that way if you're doing what we do," Knoxville, who was bitten repeatedly by an angry anaconda in the new film, said.

"You can't let that consequence influence your thinking.

"If you do, then you may as well give up. You should find another job like collecting stamps.

"Who wants to see a half-arsed stunt man?"

Well that's bold of them to 'admit' this. Steve got caught on a moment in a freak accident and left a whole lot of passion hanging for the remaining Irwin's to hopefully keep his legacy alive.

The jackass members could never even dream of being on Steve's level.

Well now we know why Tigers eat there young !!!!!!!! Kids like this stuff

well i hadn't heard about the near miss shark thing, cause i don't waste my time watching jackasses.....(pun intended).....but GOOD GRIEF, HOW DUMB CAN YOU BE??? THAT IS SO STUPID .......WHAT AN IDIOT!!!!

This sounds like some "jackass" from their show just trying to get them name and show in the news.

Sad that they are trying to get attention in the news media to their show/move from the death of someone else.

I'll say it is. I've never seen Irwin harass animals the way these jackass people seem to. He was all about showing off his passion. Not making money with cruelty to animals. I don't like how they are trying to compare what they do to Steve Irwin.

My fear is that some day one of these jackasses will get killed by a wild animal (shark or otherwise) and the animal will then be painted as a "killer" by the uneducated masses, unfairly shedding the animal in a poor light.

Hopefully the whole crew will get it and there will be nothing left to tell the tale. Stupid is as stupid does. Sometimes stupid is dead.

To quote Ron White (comedian)...
You can't fix STUPID!
