I went to Isla Mujeres with my wife one year, with another couple. The four of us wanted to dive, but conditions would not permit; in fact, diving was only permitted by the harbor master *one* day the whole week we were there.

We got out there and did the first dive; my wife was seasick from the 6-pack (boat, not the alcohol lol) and ended up feeding the fishes at the end of the dive. We ended up calling the second dive, since my wife couldn't very well sit there on a rocking boat and wait for us. Tipped the divemaster and captain as if we had done our dives (wasn't THEIR fault, after all), and called it a day.

Later, my friend's wife confided that she was getting cold and uncomfortable as well, so was glad that we decided to call the dive. Despite the situational pressure, I'm glad we did and I have no regrets. Got plenty of snorkelling in around the island instead, and can't wait to return. Glad to still have my dive buddy and my friends to dive with another day. :)

It is surprisingly hard, for everybody.
Perhaps it's biological.
Take vice grips for the ear or a hammer.
I take thumb and forefinger for the ear.
