Hello I am new to the forum and looking forward to getting to know you guys! I was wondering if anyone had any info on some of the patch reefs off of Islamorada. Ive heard about the fingers, Maze, Hamm, Smiley and jumping mackerel but can not find these on any maps or charts. Not sure if they are local names or just not popular spots, but Im just looking for new areas to dive that do not draw the crowds that the more popular reefs do. Any info on these?

Thanks,
coralMAZE

Welcome to the forum! Try introducing yourself in the Introduction and Greets Section. As far as these go, I've heard of fingers, Maze, Hamm and Jumping Mackerel. When I was booking my trip to Key Largo the dive shop gave me those as options. I know of a website that may be of help, I'm going to look for it and get back to you

www.divespots.com turns up nothing...

Thanks for the reply, I've spent some time googling them and have not found much. I'm starting to think that they are just local names for the various small patches. Hopefully more people have heard of these and can point me in the right direction. Thanks again!!

I did see something called the Cannabis Cruiser as an actual wreck off Islamorada. Supposedly a boat was smuggling weed into the country by boat, the Coast Guard saw them, and they hopped ship, sinking the ship intentionally with the cargo. Supposedly a very nice dive!

Dove a place called Cpt. Arnos I can't find on any maps.

dove the cruiser about 8 years ago, a couple of miles south of alligator light in 115FT. not much profile left of the wreck then, althought one of the divers in my group spotted a huge sawfish near the bow,,,,,

Thanks Reefman I will look it up on my Fishing/Diving map I bought at the Bass Pro-shop while visiting.

I got a souvenir dive flag, map, hat and T-shirt while in the Keys, my wife got to get a new filling and be told she needs a crown from Dr. of Dentistry Travis Benett ha! Not a fair deal for her!

Thats awesome about the Sawfish! I saw one last year up in Flamingo- super cool fish!! If anyone has any ideas about the Maze, or any of the other "locally named" patches, please let me know! Glad Debbies gone!!

I'm looking today for those sites and will let everyone know. Been hectic for the last few days as we actually got to go out and dive. Something that we haven't be able to do since last Saturday.
Anyway should get that later this afternoon.

Good Diving
