I wouldn't completely rule out Coral Divers, I would just talk to them first about your expectations and the others joining you on the boat.

The other places I saw were Mundaca Divers and Sea Hawk Divers (though I went into Sea Hawk and the guy working didn't seem to be very professional). I never talked to Mundaca.

From my perspective, as a first-timer in Isla Mujeres, the damage from Ivan seemed to be pretty minimal. I understand that the Avalon had quite a bit of damage to its restaurant patio, but it has been completely replaced already. The only other thing people who lived there told me, was that the beaches have all changed quite a bit, losing sand in places gaining it in others. Otherwise, it looked great to me.

Enjoy your trip. If you want a good, cheap, lunch or dinner sometime while you are there go to Cocina Economica. It's a little blue and white hole in the wall on one of the main streets (Juarez or Hidalgo, I think). The guy is basically cooking out of his kitchen. When we ordered beer, he had to go the store and buy it. The chicken fajitas were delicious and about 50 pesos.

sounds like a great spot for lunch friday after diving........ cant wait to get out od snowy Colorado for some warmth and boat drinks

thanks for the input............ leaving for isla in 2 days....... was there damage from Ivan???? not sure who we will be diving withwont be coral i know that,

Colo Diver,

Isla is very small...they have strived to preserve originality of their isalnd culture. It is still evidenced by the numerous fishing boat on the beach. Renting a golf cart (if time permits) is worthwhile...it is an easy way to take in the entire island. The only damage that I know of is that Ivan broke one of the larger wrecks into three pieces.

Biggest suggestion I have is, regardless of who you decide to dive with....ask all the questions you have out front and particularly any concern you may have. You can walk anywhere you want around town. It is a fun place.

got to explore the island and while we walked most of it and a short cab ride, I must say it is a fun place to people watch...... dove with Aqua Adventures beacgfront at the Avalon. They have only been open about a year there and are opening a new shop in town and while thier pricing is higher by about 20% the service we recieved was top shelf..... the first day was just us and the dive master sort of like our own private tour and day two saw a third person join us...... nice boat, nice dives and good people. A definate fins up!!!! On a return trip to Isla, we will stay else where other than the Avalon (over priced for the value recieved) but will definately look up Aqua Adventures and dive with them again........
