Is padi rescue diver really worth taking,

The rescue diver course was by far the most rewarding Padi course I have done just choose your trainer carefully. Its a course that should be manditory if you are doing unsupervised diving and you have come the PADI ow and aow route, I have dived with loads of other guys from other agencies and one example is the BSAC sports diver he has done the rescue training as a requirment and this is the next level up from the base ocean diver entry level where he is completly supervised. Ive now crossed over to BSAC and enjoy the club system but it is not everyones cup of tea. It will not improve your dive skills but with a good instructor it will make you think and give you the ability to help someone

Damn right, and if someone's says they cant see any point in taking it I would'nt want to dive with them!

I agree with all that has been said. Rescue was very worthwhile. (I did the Dan O2 provider at the same time and recommend that.) For me the course was more about situational awareness than new skills.

It's OK Dive Bug , worth reviving if it gets even one more person to take it , and as soon as possible after they have the basics down and are comfortable under water

Greetings fellow Scuba Board enthusiasts '04 here we go!
IMHO I think that Rescue was the most responsible coarse I have ever taken and by far the most taxing!
When I assisted teaching the class it was magnificent! There is a clear defining moment in every persons training that you get to see what they are truly made of.
If you do not walk away with this feeling you let yourself and your buddy down!

The goal of the class is to promote awareness and give you the tools to perform rescue scenes depending on your situation.
i dive enough to have witnessed several accidents and rescue scenes it is amazing to see the reaction of some divers when an emergency arrises. I am very glad that many have taken the coarse and have taken it very seriously.
One thing that I wish would happen is that there were periodic refreshers for Rescue certs to be valid. One does not forget the skills but they can become rusty!
I want to be ready when it is my turn to lend a hand!

I've seen posts here that some instructors offer refresher courses at less or no cost ... I would take one if that were the case here
I took mine at 18 OW dives and I think that it would be good for me to go back and do it again (again, I had the basics down ... trim, buoyancy, comfortable)
.. better to take it sooner, rather then later .. you will be a better/safer, more aware diver for doing so

While it may be a necro'd thread, it's still a good one. I'm hoping to get some more dives in, make sure I'm nice and comfortable and plan on doing AOW / EFR (probably EFR over the winter) and then RD next year.
