The metal case adjustable barrel poppet SP reg is the #109. It can be converted to balanced/adjustable by installing a current SP s-wing poppet, (same as the G250) and a G250 spring and balance chamber. Then what you have is basically a G250 in a metal case, without the venturi assist. SP did make balanced/adjustable metal case regs, #156, and they were called "balanced/adjustable."

Those regs perform great. The G250 performs very similarly, but it's lighter, has more venturi assist, and is not as effective with dry mouth. I've gone back and forth between using those two as my primary for a long time, although lately I've been using my D300 more. You're going to like either one.

DON'T TOUCH EBAY!!!! :no

Again, you're buying off the assumption that the regs will be ok, and once you've given the guy your money, there's not a great chance of getting it back. I would also go and look at a comparison chart for Scubapro's regulators. Your best bet is a MK17 and G250V. Both are diaphragm regs designed for cold water. Also, when you buy a used SP reg, the lifetime warranty becomes void, and you have to pay for servicing every year, which (in my area) is over $100 without the warranty. (all their warranties include free parts for life) When you buy new, the warranty is good, and you have a reg that you know doesn't have any problems. The only way I'd buy a used reg is if I wanted one for a save-a-dive kit that I don't use that much.

I am a newbie, so my advice may not be the best!

Hope that helps

Sure a MK17 and G250v would be a great set but for nearly 1/10 of the price you could get a MK10 and G250 or even better 109 /156 and it will perform just as good after a service.
Personally I would never buy a new regulator. But thats just me.
