After reading many posts in the last month. I am now thinking of getting a SP MK10 or MK20 with G250 Metal Second and spare, off of E-Bay. Then taking to a local SP-LDS
and gone through by them, Instead of buying a low end Reg setup IE Calypso New?

You will die if you buy regulators off EBay! :crafty:

Actually it becomes somewhat addictive, my wife is not so happy.:eyebrow:

You can find some great deals, and some real junk. The good thing about SP is there are plenty of kits and parts for them there as well.

The best time to buy is in the winter though.

Once you get it serviced by a good SP tech, it will most likely be better than anything you can buy today.

I'm still diving my eBay MK1.

PS. I will say that there's a small risk that the reg you buy will be unserviceable and totally corroded, so you need to work that out somehow (either buy really cheap or use a CC and get some sort of assurance from the seller)

Your thinking is not flawed, but be prepared to spend some extra money if needed on the servicing. It's still worth it. If you can get a knowledgeable person to help you buy wisely, all the better.

Just be aware some scubapro LDS are more accepting of servicing ebay deal regulators than others, some will charge excessive service fees, etc. I buy them myself, but my situation is a bit different as I service them myself, and have been through the Scubapro service seminar multiple times.

Your thinking is flawed. I believe the G250 has only been a plastic regulator. The regulator you are thinking about is the Balanced Adjustable.

DON'T TOUCH EBAY!!!! :no

Again, you're buying off the assumption that the regs will be ok, and once you've given the guy your money, there's not a great chance of getting it back. I would also go and look at a comparison chart for Scubapro's regulators. Your best bet is a MK17 and G250V. Both are diaphragm regs designed for cold water. Also, when you buy a used SP reg, the lifetime warranty becomes void, and you have to pay for servicing every year, which (in my area) is over $100 without the warranty. (all their warranties include free parts for life) When you buy new, the warranty is good, and you have a reg that you know doesn't have any problems. The only way I'd buy a used reg is if I wanted one for a save-a-dive kit that I don't use that much.

I am a newbie, so my advice may not be the best!

Hope that helps

I have 2 G250Vs, and they are both balanced adjustable. As far as I know, they are carbon fiber or something fancy like that.

Would I be wrong to assume that any of the SP Metal Adjustable Seconds would be -OK- and perform reasonably well. I intend to use it in cold water as well as Caribbean.
