Hi everyone! I found this site during a search about women using trimix. I was recently told that I can't join a trimix class at my university because I am a woman! The DO said that the gear load would be too much for me to handle (and I am no weakling). Any thoughts on this? I would love some articles and facts to bring back to him, so anyone who can contribute I'd really appreciate it!

BS! I am Tech 2 certified with GUE. 110 pounds, 5'4 and
I carry a set of double PST E8-119s, 2 AL40s, 1 AL80 and
a gavin scooter at my dives!
I'm about to add another AL80.

I am Cave 2 certified as well.

Have fun!

I wonder if there more to this than you are telling us

Did you take and fail a physical ? Did you have some kind of assesment that resulted in the instructor rejecting you application to join the class ??

I would guess that no university in US or Europe could leagally stop someone joining a class based on souly on their sex.

That's a bunch of B.S.
The only thing I can think of off the top of my head that a diver wouldn't be able to do because she's a woman is use a P-valve in her drysuit. I agree with downunderjenn on this one... you absolutely should be able to take a trimix class, but I wouldn't want to take it from an instructor with a bad attitude like that.

Find someone good, and take it from them. If you put your location in your profile, I'm sure some folks here would be happy to suggest someone in your area.

this sounds like a troll to me - unless like sealkie says--there's more to the story

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

That's rediculous!

I recommend that you print out all of the responses from women on this board who are tech divers carrying all of the gear that goes with that. Then read them all to him out loud in front of a group of people. That'll get him. Don't let him interrupt!

I would then give them to the people who run the University with a cover letter demanding a public apology to the women of the student body. I'd also send a letter to the agencies he represents letting them know about his "discrimination". Sometimes I hate to use that word because it's often not appropriate, but it seems like it really fits here.

Some of the women on this board work as tech divers at places that probably wouldn't even let this idiot dive with them. LOL, they probably wouldn't want him eating at the same table.

After making all of that noise, I agree that you should find someone else to take your class from.

Don't forget to fill out your profile and dive info, so that we can add context to your future posts. Also, once we know where you are geographically, you may find that you'll have a whole bunch of new dive buddies to choose from locally.

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.

Why do we have two threads about the same subject???

That's rediculous!

If it is in the US, then I'd make some noise. If not, then I'd act with safetly in mind according to local custom. If it's a troll, then you got me! :11:
