In a month, I'll be spending a few days in Aqaba.
Does Jordanian law require dive insurance? If so,
what is the cheapest way of meeting the obligation?

I did some diving in Aqaba a few years back. I can't recall having been actually asked to have a diving insurance, because I always carry a DAN insurance, which, I believe, every diver ought to have one, irrespective of where he dives.

You can always check with Rod Abbotson in www.diveaqaba.com

Dove in Aqaba in Jan 2011 (with Dive Aqaba) and did not need to provide proof of dive insurance. So unless something has changed recently, you should be OK in that regard. I will echo the other poster in that insurance is prob a good thing regardless.

NOT having valid dive and travel insurance probably is not illegal most places, but its bloody stupid not to..

Dove with Dive Aqaba in Feb 2011 and nobody asked me about dive insurance, traveling there tomorrow for a week of diving.

I already have DAN cover, should anyone ask, but this is a rarity although I frequently see a place on waiver forms for entering a DAN number.

The insurance is not for the dive ops security anyways, but your own. It sux getting sick, bent, injured or whatever at your vacation and end up with a bigass avoidable medical bill that you are required to pay in full before you're allowed to leave the country.
A friend of mine almost got stuck at a hospital because of it..
