UB- I will be there friday too...Id be happy to walk up the bluff with you,and show you the "lay of the land" so to speak. The visibility tends to get better further out,but you can have an enjoyable dive in the cove.Im sure we can help you plan your dive....

I don't know for sure. I PM'ed him saying that I might be bringing my inflatable, but he was concerned that he hasn't dived from one before. If wristshot's not going, I'll have an open spot (or two).

I do have a reservation for Friday, and *I think* that I'm buddyless, so if anyone's interested, let me know.

The key is not just dive in the sandy area in front of the boat ramp, but to actually get to the kelp and reef shown on the referenced page.

Or have doubles on drop down early and do one looong dive.... sure beats the surface swim IMHO

Hey if WS can't get back in your inflatable just tow him back :) you'll have the right bait to trawl for a nice trophy GWS

The best part of my last dive was in 15 fsw just near the parking lot wall... watching scools of krill (i think) being picked off by pipefish

Thanks Drewpy - I look forward to it!!

We are thinking of taking a vacation day on Friday and may join you all.

Our plan is to head out to Beto's Reef, and look for the Giant GPO we found on Saturday.

Anyone is welcome to join us if we go, but the dive is out to about 100' and a bit of a swim from the shore. It is an advanced intermediate / experienced dive.

You should be able to just show up (with a buddy and C-cards) on Friday the 19th and pay the fee and dive.
There are two fees: $10 per buddy team for the reservation. If you show up and
there's an opening, you don't have to pay that. And there's a per-car charge. I think
it's $10/car -- I buy an annual pass.

And there's a third fee that won't affect UB. It's new this year: $5/boat (or $60 annual
fee, which I paid Sunday).

The per car charge is $8. I remember this because they always ask if I have exact change. :D I don't think I go to Point Lobos enough to make an annual pass cost effective, although I'd like to. But every time that I do go there, I seem to run into Mark and his wife ;) I think he steals all of the reservations.

The $5 boat fee applies to power boats. Kayaks (and inflatables with oars, IIRC) are still free.

Chuck, where's your link for First Time Monterey Divers and Kelp Diving?
I wish the mods would make it a sticky or something, it's that good.

LOL, ever consider the opposite? Every time I'm there so are you :D . I think you are stealing all of them. :14: .

The annual pass is good at most state parks. We've found it to be pretty handy. I think it was 125.00 for the year. Given that, I am obligated to dive Lobos weekly to ensure I get my $$$$ worth out of my annual pass. ;)

Lol-Mark doesnt pay an annual fee...he pays rent there!

I agree with Dan! Chuck-it would be a great resource for new or visiting divers!I vote for a sticky as well!
