I hope so!:D

Hi, I don't know any of you, but I really want to dive the Catalina Island and was planning to go there around the 11th. Are there any gals coming along on this trip? I'm looking to share accommodations with someone because it's so expensive there, preferably a girl, anyone?

We would love to have you there! My wife and I are going and do hope we have a few other ladies as well. We are not staying on the Island but we will be at the Casino Dive Park most of the day. Below is a map of the dive park and my wife and I camp out on the wall at the black arrow. Don't be shy, come up and say hello, I may even have some ScubaBoard Stickers. Hope to see you there!

Dave,

I'm not a Beach Crab, but I'll be at Casino Point on that weekend with some dive friends. We're coming up from San Diego. We'll definitely stop by and say hello.

I dived the UW park there for the first time a few weeks ago. Water temp was 68 degrees F at depth. Vis was not super (20-30 ft). We didn't see any giant sea bass or morays, but we did get a fantastic bat ray show by the Sue-jac. Hopefully, we'll get the chance to dive the Valiant this time around.

Here's a pic that my girlfriend took:

If people are interested in downloading a fantastic annotated PDF map of the UW park, I highly recommend this link.

I'll see you on the 11th.

Chris

Are you using a rebreather? Because I think you need a permit to dive the Valiant. However, on occasion, I've seen folks with rebreathers do a marathon dive from the park to the valiant and back.

Hey! That map has Oscar (1) sorta in the wrong place!

I'm not diving a rebreather. Yeah, I'm aware that I need to get a permit from the Harbormaster to dive the Valiant. A couple weeks ago we stopped by the Harbormaster's office on Green Pier and I felt like he was saying "No" even before I finished my sentence. He went on to say that weekends from March to October are a no-go. Midweek and during the winter is a possibility. It all depends on the current boat traffic. I've had friends that do the looooooong underwater swim from the UW park, but frankly I wouldn't mind playing by the rules and letting the Harbormaster know what I'm doing. The rules are meant for my safety anyway.

FWIW, I asked around and several people said that in the past they've been able to do the Valiant with Harbormaster's permission on a summer weekend. I guess I just need to keep asking.
