i get the impression that my LDS wanted me to buy the gear, do OW, but after that, it's like pulling teeth to do more training...

i've paid for AOW, but have only been able to do 2 of the 5 dives! i'm retired and can do them ANY TIME!!!!

what, doesn't he want my money....

i want to be a master diver. should i go to another shop?

Some shops have a way of collecting course fees and then over commiting and things start to drag out. Also bad conditions can back things up. They probably prefer to make the dives with a group unless you paid for private instruction.

That being said if they are not meeting your needs by all means shop around.

Did you pay for a private course or did you pay the groupe rate? If you paid for private instruction they should be working to get your training done. If you paid the group rate then they may not be interested in doing the course in such a manner that it increases their overhead. Are there any others in the AOW with you?

that's a good point... i wonder how much more he'll charge for private... there was two others in my AOW, but one, crapped out on the underwater navigation with a "migrain" and that was it... so my deep dive, photography, and night dive are all i need...

Guess I'm lucky. My LDS doesn't push sales and doesn't push certain certs on anyone, but they are happy to help with both. If you want to do a class then they are more than happy to set you up. If you want to buy a product then they will be happy to help. The only problem is I am about to get my advanced nitrox cert and they don't do tech and pretech classes so I am having to go to their competitor. What do they think about that. They totally understand. It's a great LDS...

the guy is nice... i'm just in the overly-anxious period!

must dive all the time, and everything is about diving!

Hmmm.. That's odd... Once I got my OW cert, my LDS has been more than happy to schedule me for more training (AOW, UW Nav Spec, PPB Spec, etc.). A couple times they've taken me on a waiting list sort of because there weren't enough people signed up, but they've always called me once they have enough people lined up which works for me.

not sure why... kind of feel awkward asking him, but i like the private lessons, idea...

If you signed up for a group lesson and others in the group quit for what ever reason then the LDS should, within a reasonable time frame, go ahead and finish your training without charging you extra, IMO.

Find another LDS or let your current one know how you feel. Or see if they can set up your dives with someone else. Ours will bend over backwards to accomadate our additional training. They do have class schedules monthly(OW, AOW, Nitrox, Equip. Spec., Rescue) for many classes but if you can't fit into their schedule they will work something out. All other specialities are available by request. Maybe we are just lucky.
