We were in Cozumel last month, as we walked to town on several occasions we were asked about buying drugs from young adult males saying they had a "full pharmacy". It was always the same place, in front of the telecomm building between Senor Frogs and the Ti Tanzinite. Doesn't take much of an imagination to know what's going on. Wasn't there a shooting at Senor Frogs several months ago?

I personally feel safer walking around Coz than most areas in the states after dark and during the day. The drug wars are about cartels fighting each other for turf and eliminating free-lancers in tourist areas. Tourists are not targeted by cartels in turf wars. That's not to say a tourist may not get caught in cross-fire but getting caught in cross fire is far more common in the states than Mexico. The reality is if the cartels scare all the tourists away they won't have a drug consuming customer base to supply in Cancun. You're average Mexican can't afford an expensive drug habit... That's why the tourist areas are fought over and why they smuggle it into the states.

I just got back from there yesterday. Cozumel is business as usual, as mentioned above Islands are a bad place for bad guys and Playa had heavily armed federales all over the place where the gringos hang out, like 5th ave.

I am concerned. Recall Cancun used to be very safe as did Acapulco. So it is a concern. Being an island helps a lot but these problems seem to be spreading at an alarming rate throughout the region.

Y'all better not fly through Atlanta to get to your diving destination. The news here is filled with murders and home invasions. Stolen luggage at the airport is a problem, too. All of our law enforcement blames it on drugs and gangs (in that order).

Seriously..., this guy shows up in Cancun and there's a murder an hour later? I admit, I don't follow Cancun murders, but that just seems a little off to me.
