I don’t know if this qualifies as a toy, but it’s something that my wife and I take with us whenever there is the potential for a chilly dive.

We always take a couple of reusable heat packs. The benefits of a heat pack to a cold diver are pretty obvious. Although I use it between dives, my wife has activated the heat pack, stuck it her wet suit, and gone diving to 100+ fsw.

One thing we get alot of use out of on trips is one of those small flat waterproof boxes on a necklace lanyard. Just big enough to hold a couple of C-cards, room key, and a bit of folding money. Beast just wears it under his wetsuit. Never had one leak yet but if it doea it's no biggie...money will dry!

They also make one that will hold prescription or sunglasses. I have an RX mask so I put my glasses in one and drop it into the dry bag.

The surplus mil-spec laptops are starting to come onto the market at reasonable prices now. These things cost us taxpayers over $6k when they were new.
Magnesium cases, gel mounted HDs, run 'em over with your pickup truck or stick them in your aquarium & they keep on humming.
Drag your download kits along out in the nasty weather for loading pics, downloading your dive computer, run deco programs. Slap a GPS antenna on 'em, hook to your cellphone and post instant trip reports with live video.
Keep yer eyes open, you heard it here first!

Those heat packs Stone mentioned are pretty slick.
There's a little "snap disc" in the pack, click it & it initiates the phase change from liquid to a solid, giving up lotsa heat. Boil 'em to "recharge".
My girlfriend stole all mine tho.:cold:

More info on the heat pack would be good. Just did a dive sunday in 39 degree water but the worst part is the boat ride after the fact. Just need one i could strap to my face!

Heres a collection of toys i put together for our dive club here in Peterborough:

I'm certainly looking for the off the wall stuff but extra powerful/ better/ stronger versions of current things would be good as well. For example, i've got an HID UK Light Cannon. I like the HID'edness of it all, and it really is very nice underwater against a regular light. But darned if i dont want something 10 times as bright now.

I tried some underwater comm stuff a couple weeks ago and was a bit dissappointed but will give them another shot.

Keep em comin guys and gals! I need targets for purchases for next season.

Steve

Great for pointing out stuff to your dive buddy.

Laser Pointer

I sell them on my site so I'm not unbiased, but one of my concepts for the site is to find just the kind of thing you are talking about. Cool dive accessories that everybody doesn't already have one of.

Also check out the shore diving locker. Shore Lock
