Inspiration Please! Marking Your Tanks..

Folks -

Every week when I pick up my tanks from the LDS I gaze over a room full of white tanks: all with, at the very best, maybe a faded paint marker initial to identify them.

Surely there's a better way to make my tanks stand out from the crowd?

Maybe I could do something that gives the fill monkey a short laugh that breaks the monotony of their grueling existence.

I'm considering stencils and spray paint, but given Scubaboard is a talented group can anyone give me some inspiration in marking your tanks so that they stand out from all the others?

I'll go first - this is my current effort that you need to beat:

Stickers can (and should) get peeled off annually.

I keep a small herd of a half-dozen propane tanks, from 5# to 30# around the house. for grilling, camping, emergency heating, etc. When I fill one, I put a green zip tie loosely on the handle. When I first use a bottle, I cut that off. That way I can quickly ID full vs partial bottles.

For me, I have custom printed VIP stickers with the "Double-D" logo (see avatar) so my bottles are pretty identifiable, but colored zip ties or a combination of colored zip ties on the base of a valve would quickly, easily, cheaply, and cleanly serve the identification purpose.

For most of my personal tanks, I just have a sticker that says TRACY on them. Bumper stickers are pretty cheap online.

I have 20 year old steel tanks. I bought some stencils and spray painted my initials on them along with a 1 or 2. Not pretty but they are easy to spot.

I think there are companies that make shrink wraps for tanks. I haven’t seen many, but they look okay and can personalize your gear. The down side is they, can trap salt water on the outside of the tank (not a big deal to me). They can be cut off easily for inspections, so don’t plan on them being there forever.

Tank finishes don’t look pretty forever. My steel look well used, my kid’s tanks were panted from the factory and look…. Well used. A 30 to 45 lbs piece of metal you drag around shop to to shore to boat is going to get dinged up. If you enjoy making art projects, enjoy. Otherwise your initials will probably do…

I used a pen paint an put my initials large on them at the "back" (seen from the valve).
Actually a black double line and a red inside.

Well... i was lazy and did it when the tank wa standing, so the paint flow a bit down, because the pen did not work properly in this position after a bit. Looks a bit like halloween.
