Hi,
Looking for info on the ScubaPro MK17/R390 Regulator, found a nearly new used set to buy as a backup.
Does anyone have experience use the r390?, good reg? reviews? etc.
any info would be appreciated
Thanks,

Is it customary not to answer the very 1st post? :D
Welcome on board, I bite:

In the beginning, there was the 108 or HP all metal 2nd, which became the R190 with a plastic housing, which got down sized to become the R290, to which a VIVA vane was added to become the R390. Finally both the R290 & the R390 get a facelift to become the R295 & R395, possibly signaling their end-of-life, making way for the C200/300.

All of the R series are what's called "basic down stream", simple and rugged devices that can last a long long time; and they're very simple to service. Performance wise, they're OK to good when paired with a balanced 1st stage such as your MK17, but they're not in the same league as the G250V or the Apeks whcih use a different design called "barrel poppet" and a balance chamber.

As a backup set, it's perfect.

The R190 has a VIVA vane. I left ScubaPro after that so I do not know about the rest.
