SMB is also helpful. I always carry one except on some dives with private guides in shallow water.

During that incident I had been diving in the same area on the wet temptation with Disappointing Dan's Dive Charters. I did not hear about the incident until later because apparently the captain prefers to turn off his radio. We were right there and could have helped the victim or the other divers in the water. I was disappointed in their lack of professionalism from the start. I'm glad to hear that everyone was picked up by another boat and hopefully the victim survived as well.
