I stayed at CD's in November and just got back from Divi last Friday. Hands down I would go with Divi again. CD's is waaay overrated. Divi had far superior service and accomodations. I have no complaints against the dive guides at Capt. D's, in fact I went to visit with one I met in November, but I have absolutely no complaints about my dive guides at Divi. The resort itself is in much better shape, the food service/accomodations at Chibi Chibi is far better than Rum Runners. Also, there is a small private beach at Divi for guests only with a water trampoline in about 15ft of water...quite nice and relaxing. Also at Divi's there is a place to layout that goes out into the water like a penisula...the view from this spot at night is awesome...I hung out there everynight for atleast a half hour looking up at the sky..really peaceful.

If you have heard good things about the diving off of Capt. D's than pay the 5 bucks and dive there a couple times in one day..or enter the water close by and swim over to their reef, but I wouldn't stay there just for that..the reef in front of Divi's is in pretty good shape and has just as much to see as Capt. D's.

Enjoy.

I'm not familiar with Capt. Dons or Divi, but I can tell you about the Plaza and Toucan diving. The Plaza may indeed cost more but it's first rate all the way. Great place to stay and enjoy Bonaire. They have their own little beach and a (unlimited shore diving) reef thats a nice dive ever time. Toucan diving is first class also. You won't go wrong with these guys. I'm going back in September and we'll be staying at the Plaza. On the other hand, the diving is so good down there it would take a really lousy room to trash a vacation. :) I hope you have a great trip. :tree: Bob

Whatever place you stay at make sure you get your information from people who have recently been there...not someone who was there 4 years ago or whatever. From what I understand Divi wasn't that great of a resort in the past, but my experience with them a week ago warrants another visit from me in the near future.

I had great experiences with the entire staff..from the front counter to the dive shop they are all rated top notch in my book. In fact I am going to write a thank you letter to them sometime this week.

I stayed at Captain DOn's last year and it was so-so... I thought the boats were a little old, and the DM's were only ok. I wasnt impressed. I have stayed at the Plaza twice (this year, and two years ago) and I LOVE THEM. Toucan is a GREAT dive operator, the DM's actually make sure you have a great trip. They have a good package with a rental truck too. Plaza is a big place, and very spread out though. You might have to walk a little bit to get around the resort. On Bonaire, there is VERY good shore diving. DOnt spend alot of time diving at the house reef. Get out and drive to the other dive spots around the island. Very nice diving. You might not be spending alot of time at the hotel. I plan on checking out Buddy Dive the next time i go to Bonaire, I have heard good things about them. Many of my friends have stayed there and loved it. I have no experience with the Divi. GOod Luck!!!
