We are planning a week long trip in August to Bonaire. Can't decide on Divi Flamingo or Capt. Don’s Habitat?? Anyone have first hand input? Thanks!

Doug

Had a great time at Captain Don's back in 1994. Don't know how much has changed since then, but if I was to head back that way, that's where I would book my accomodations. I really can't complain about any of the service I received there, it was a very relaxing vacation.

Take a look at the comments on my Bonaire thread above,,lots of info on many places...

Not sure what your criteria for a resort is but there a lot of places to stay on Bonaire. I would suggest that you do a careful study of what is offered by each place. If I am correct, Divi has regular "hotel" rooms- bed, bath and maybe a frig, Capt Dons's I think has condos. Others that you may want to look at are Lions Dive, Buddy Dive and Sand Dollar. All of these are located beside CD's and have complete condos. If you want a more upscale place, look at the Plaza. Also, make sure that you are compairing apples to apples when looking at the cost of the package. Some places only include the room, others include the room and maybe a vehicle while others (Buddy Dive- "Dive and Drive") include airport xfers/condo/truck/unlimited tanks/breakfast. Where ever you go, you will want some type of vehicle. Also, I would suggest that you not purchase an "all inclusive", there are lots of great places to eat on Bonaire. I have been on all of the properties(and in at least one room) except Divi and all are nice places. If you want more detailed info on any of there places , try going to www.bonairetalk.com and ask there. There are lots of Bonaire experts on the BT board. I am very familiar with Buddies so I would be happy to answer any question on them.

I stayed at the Divi last year. We enjoyed it alot. But we also visited at Cap't Don's. One thing I did was take a bag of bird food to feed the parrot at CD's. The DM was quite particular what kind we took down, anyway we also dove several times on the house reef which I would say was in better shape than the Divi's house reef. But then when we were night diving at the Divi we would get Tarpon that would come very close too us to feed on fish that were attracted to our dive lights. So either way you'll win, Bonaire is a good dive.

But this food was at the request of the Dm who contacted me over the internet and requested a particular type of food he said was good for his bird.........
probably because people were causing the bird a bad diet. :mean:

I would go with the Divi. I like the rooms right on the ocean. Nothing like hearing the water at night while relaxing in your room.

Take a look at the Plaza. I stayed there a few years ago. The hotel is first rate and so is the diving operation Tucan Divers. Some I know just stayed at the Plaza and also said it was out standing.
As for Tucan Divers I dove with then in Bonaire and also in Curacao both shops are first rate.
The Plaza and Tucan Divers (located on site) have some nice packages. The dive boats and crews are great. Given the chance I would go back in a second.
Good luck

Captain Don's has my vote. Prices are a little higher, but the quality of the accommodations and service are far superior in my opinion.

Plaza Resort Bonaire is also nice and compressively priced.

There are several threads regarding Divi Flamingo. Divi is probably about the least expensive resort on Bonaire. People who don't mind making sacrifices of comfort for price seem to like it. Personally in the future I would spend the extra $50 or so for the week in order to be in a clean comfortable room with a phone, a fridge and no cockroaches.

My last experience at the Divi was less than satisfying. I have stayed at several other resorts since then and have found those above to be more attractive. Other good choices: Buddy Dive or Belmar Apartments.

Good luck
:)
