I dunno about that; you probably won't wine you REALLY like if you are into rare vintages, but we've found wine on the island that's... well, OK if not great. There's not a lot of choices, but what's there is not too bad and gets the job done.
I'd like to know where? I've only seen one place on the island where you can get anything other the bad $3.99 a bottle Mexcan wine and that would be the Italian restraunt that chages restraunt prices, i.e. about tripple retail.

Not really. There is a pretty respectable current through the channel between Cozumel and the Yucatan, and it sweeps things pretty clean. I find the occasional beer can, which I stick in my BC pocket.
I found a beer bottle last time, but since it was already home to a small morray I decided it was better left alone...

Well, I remember there being some wines over at Chedraui, in the liquor section over by the produce, and there was a shop over near Fat Tuesday's that had a few wines. The Domecq (sp?) Chardonnay is OK (not great). I don't know if that's what you are calling the "bad $3.99 a bottle Mexcan wine", but I don't remember it being that cheap or that bad.

You're not going to find a selection as good as in even a mediocre US grocery wine section anywhere on Coz that I am aware of, but that's not why I am there. ;^)

Want good wine go to France. Want a good Margarita go to Cozumel :D

Watch out for those margarita prices. Some people took me to El Morro and I had a great chicken mole.

The margarita cost more than the dish of food. It was good but not that good.

280 MP for 3 margaritas ($8.65 US each). 280 doesn't divide by 3 so I think they ripped us off because the two other people were sauced. As they were my hosts, I didn't say anything.

As to necessary equipment, bring your own weight belt if you are a big person. Sometimes the belts they have aren't long enough or the buckles aren't that great looking.

If you bring a reel and lift bag, the DM might get excited because that is their claim to fame, shooting an SMB. Bring a sausage.

Heh, use Blue Angel. The belt they gave me could have fit around me twice.

I was with Blue Angel.

Ahh, next time get a belt from the shop and keep it all week. I don't know the reasoning behind it but it seems all the belts in the shop are longer than the ones on the boats.

Here are some things I've found invaluable on ALL of my dive trips:

Travel alarm clock--some hotels don't have clocks, don't take a chance on missing the dive boat!

Thongs (the shoes! :) for wearing in the room--those tile floors get REALLY slippery when wet

Extra batteries--for cameras, dive lights, dive computer, etc. Batteries are very expensive on just about any island.

First aid kit--you'd be surprised how often you use this if you have one. Make sure you put a small bottle of white vinegar in there for stings.

Calculator--to assist in figuring out the exchange rates

Several large garbage bags--I started doing this my first trip to Coz and have done it on every trip since. Not only can you use them to pick up trash on the beach, but they're GREAT for packing up dive gear that is still soaked (for those of us who get in every dive we can before the "no-fly" period)

Have a great time! :)
