MK1,
I will second girldiver on Tavernier Creek. I've dived with the guys at Tavernier Dive Center and they are a nice operation. Right across the street on the Bayside is Conch Republic Divers. http://conchrepublicdivers.com Their web site probably hasn't been updated in awhile, but such is life in the Keys.:tree:Bob

Here's something that's always worth checking. Two operators in Key Largo make a good example.

Capt Slate has 28 ft boats and tries to keep the number of divers "in the low twenties" (they are certified for more).

Horizon Divers has a 45 ft catamaran (a cattle boat favorite), but limits divers to 20.

From a topside crowding perspective, which one looks better?

Here's another plus for Horizon: They will pick up your gear from your hotel, set it up for you, (and if you are diving on multiple days) they will rinse and store your gear and have it set up for you the next day.

Hello Stone,

Sorry I have not checked the board before but I was kind on busy.

Good information, I agreed is like apple and oranges and I think is good that they try not to fill the boat up because you will have more space.

If you use them let us know.....

Brgds

May I put a plug in for the dive shop I always use when up in that area. Lady Cyana Divers. A first class operation.

Hi mking1,

I just got back to New Jersey from a trip to Ft Lauderdale. We dove for 3 days on the "Lady Go Diver" out of Deerfield Beach.

1 tank morning deep/tech dives and 2 tank afternoon shallower wreck/reef drift dives.

Captain Joe (captain the week I was there) is a lot of fun to swap tall tales with and seems to really enjoy helping everyone have a good time and a safe trip.

The boat is docked just across the parking lot from a diveshop called Dixie Divers so getting air-fills and picking up all those little things you forgot to bring are very convienent.

I found a website for Dixie Divers but it only mentions the shop in the Keys. The logo is the same though so I assume it's a branch of the same operation.

If you are interested in tech diving, they had no problem supplying whatever we asked for RE: nitrox & trimix.

I believe the Lady usualy has a set schedule of where it goes but can be charted to specific divesites if you give them enough lead time.

Hope this post is not too late -- the original message said you were going in Spring (2002?). We dive Key Largo every summer. We also don't like the cattle boats. The two operations we like the best are Wreck Divers (8 divers max, will do night dives and knows all the good locations, $55 2 tank dive with your own equip) and Island Reef Divers. Another good website to check out is http://www.upperkeysdiving.com/
Wreck Divers is run by Jeff Wingate -- a great guy.
Island Reef has a very nice 6-pack, will accommodate your schedule, and has some of the best prices.
Have fun!
