Well, jep, given the position to which the Scubaboard population has elected me, what else was I going to say? :)

Very, very long story. My hands will cramp trying to fill you in from typing the story. Believe it or not, for this hour, they are back together again although I have never actually met her.

***? That wasn't her on the boat last Thursday, was it?

On to other matters, glad to hear you're taking the class, Mike. Most people get a lot out of it, and you're level-headed enough not to get caught in the hype so don't sweat it.

My advice is, take it in doubles if you possibly can, keep an open mind, stow your ego, and go slow. There is nothing you have to do fast underwater other than get a reg into someone's mouth who doesn't have one. The class is about awareness and muscle/physical memory, so just like learning to ride a bike you should go in with the expectation of falling off quite a few times before it (the style of diving) becomes second nature and you don't have to think about it any more.

On the other hand, you will likely never think about diving the same way again. Who is your instructor going to be?

ppo2_diver:
Ignore the naysayers. Most of them are Internet DIR wannabe's that don't have the stones to take the class. Probably to afraid to take the beating their level of diving deserves.

... Buoyancy and trim are the heart of the class. ... I also found it helpful to do some basic skills stuff ... to see if I could keep my depth and trim and composure throughout.

Henryville:
... The class is about awareness and muscle/physical memory ...

As far as the skills go I think these guys gave really good advice. The fundamental skills really aren't anything new you didn't learn in your OW cert. The difference for me was that the instructors piled on many other things to think about when I dive (team, environment, mental clock, depth / gas consumption rates, objective, etc.). The buoyancy/trim and skills need to be handled by reflex not conscious effort.

I'd also suggest you make a list of all your questions before class starts and get them answered. There are a lot of half truths on the Internet worth clarifying with someone qualified. The instructors will also clue you into the nuances and reasons behind the answer.

Thanks for the advice. I do not currently have the equipment for doubles, but I will see what I can do. The instructor, if he decides to do the class is Dean Marshall.

It was awesome diving with you, and I look forward to diving with you again in the future.

That was Kym who we dove with, the girl everyone is talking about if Robyn. SeaJay dumped Kym, and is pursuing Robyn again. Sounds a bit like highschool I suppose. lol goofballs.

Split...this is not the DIR Forum.

I know that.

Edit: Please note that tongue was planted firmly in cheek.

jepuskar:
Marusso,

My post was not negative towards you or your decision to go GUE/DIR. I was actually commenting on post #2 "Another one joins the collective -- hooray!"

Any time a diver chooses to further educate themselves that is hardly a negative. I have heard alot of good things about GUE. Please take it all in stride and keep your head on straight. Tell SeaJay jepuskar says hi!!

good luck with your class

Jason

Okay sorry. I misunderstood the tone of your original post.
