I used to enjoy traveling on a shoestring, with just a backpack and a change of clothes, and leaving my itinerary loose. Now, trips are expensive and involve 50 lbs. of dive gear and booking a year in advance.

Huh? I'm not addicted to scuba. Really.

Not really. If I didn't have scuba I would probably do nothing. Or go back to snorkeling in Hawaii, Mexico, etc. All places i should be diving and not snorkeling. Thank God that Lloyd Bridges invented scuba.

Scuba has motivated me to get into better shape as I am slowly approaching the age of the rest of you.:)

For some strange reason, backpacking & camping became a lot less fun during Basic Training. (Something about "schlepping" a 70pound rucksack up and down the BC Rockies in the rain wasn't my idea of fun.) I haven't gone camping since then. Now, my idea of camping is a Hampton or a Holiday Inn with a view of a nearby forest.

After diving for 55 years my current bout with cancer stopped me from diving in early July. I am still going through withdrawal. Don't feel like reading (another passion), no new UW video to edit (I guess I could edit my footage from Anilao and Puerto Galera), golf is out of the question. Life after SCUBA is hell.

As an adult my three main hobbies have been basketball, sports cars, and now the last 3 years diving/uw photography.

There is an interesting theory that 10,000 hrs of participating in an activity is required to maximize your skill at that activity. I've only done two activities for that many hours in my life, basketball and my day job and it appears I'll never come close to that many hours of diving, nor will most.

We're all just a bunch of noobs when it comes to diving :D

I used to fence a lot, mostly epee and foil. So I'd probably go back to that if n I couldn't dive.
Never was a fan of traditional spectator American sports.
I find baseball and football amazingly boring to watch.
I enjoy a good hike now and then...seems to be great cardio.
Really enjoy my Nikon, too !

I've had several hobbies/recreational activities that I've gone into and out of since 1969: guitars, dirtbikes, streetbikes, scuba. Now it is guitars and scuba. I guess I would go out and spend more time on or resurrect the others.

I don't know if 10,000 HOURS on scuba is possible. I know there are a few who have 10,000 DIVES. I probably have practiced/played clarinet well over that, but that's since 1963. Anyone out there figure they've done 10K hrs. underwater?
