I personally live in Tavernier and think it is the best of all worlds in the Keys.

However, I hope you are independently wealthy because everyplace in the Keys is very expensive on the real estate side and jobs paying over $8 - $10 an hour are few and far between!

In fact, "affordable housing" grants to builders restrict the sale price to "less than $200.000". Double wide trailers with water access sell for over $250,000 every day like hotcakes. Affordable housing is the biggest issue facing the Keys right now!

Nevertheless, I absolutely love it here.

I'd move to Miami in a snap if I could. Sorry, I'm a city slicker! I know not everybody feels the same about it. I love the city, its pace and nightlife, the weather and the water. For diving, the city's location is close to some many dive spots it would hard to choose. I've actually considered moving there for years.

Stone-

I was definitly referring to the "Flyboys". The strippers (along with Trader) are long gone, and the bar is now owned by a former Marine pilot. Big changes - they (gasp) even have real food now!!

Well, I'm finally getting out of the snow ridden Detroit area and moving to Jacksonville next month. I hate the cold and have no use for snow so it should be great. I have talked to many people about the great wreck and art. reef diving down there. Not to mention, I'll be much closer to the Keys than I am now. :D

Hey, Chickdiver! I need a change of scenery. Can I come visit you? LOL

Oh and back on point...if we are dreaming here....I would buy Little Palm Island (www.littlepalmisland.com) for my weekend getaways and invite all of my scuba friends! :D

accross the bridge from Marathon. I don't want to own
anything in the Keys, I just want to rent. That's my favorite
spot..little island with a causway, golf course, houses go for
500,000-1,500,000. Let someone else pay for them in the summer
I'll just live there in the winter.:)

not too sure on the geography, but would go within travelling distance of the keys.

saw a programme on tv with the free diving dudes and the girl, and they were with a load of bull sharks, it looked wicked

anywhere between Tallahassee and Tampa . close to the caves and also go spearfishing out to the middle grounds.
