I'd be heartbroken, because the current DSS singles wing I have was a prototype, and has some features I like better than the current wings :)

For tropical, I'd go with pretty much the same thing I use now: DSS Kydex backplate and 20 lb wing. (I have the 17 lb wing, but since I now dive dry everywhere, a little more lift would be a bit safer.)

I'd probably go with the DSS SS backplate and 32 lb wing, although if the insurance company were paying for it, it might be tempting to try out the Halcyon Infinity system.

I'd go with one HOG and one DSS system. I'd keep the hog with the 32lb wing and stainless steel backplate and i would go with a 17lb wing and kydex backplate for the DSS.

I'd get a Dynorob Ali BP and STA, Frog or DIR Zone single dounut wing, Beaver webbing and a few stainless bits from somewhere for Tropical/flying

For coldwater a Doomanic SS BP, frog or DIR zone doughnut twins wing with beaver webbing and ss bits from somwehere.

4x Apeks DS4's + 3x Atx40's (2xbackgas, 1xstage and 1xsuit inflate) or if the insurance insisted on another set for tropical use Apeks flights.

My current warm water & cold water BP/W sets are pretty much the same except back plates. They consist of Dive Rite deluxe harnesses, one is an Apeks SS plate, The other is Dive Rite, both wings are Dive Rite Classics. I would sure miss the Classic wings, as Dive Rite no longer makes them. I will admit, from what I've seen, I really like the make of the Hollis SS backplate, with the slight flare at the hips.

A plate is a plate is a plate. They are all pretty much identical, and it's the same with the harness. You only need one.

The only thing to change is the wing. For a warmwater wing, I can't recommend anything more than the Oxycheq Mach V 30# wing. Very low profile, durable, and you can get them in a choice of colors.

Your cold water wing would really depend on your exposure protection, weight needed, and tank configuration.

Unless you get an aluminum or kydex plate. I am happy with my steel plate here in the tropics, but it would be nice to save a few kilos in baggage.

I use only steel plates, even when traveling to the Caribbean. A standard 5 pound plate is perfect to offset the bouyancy of an empty AL80. All you need to add is weight to get you under.

Yes, there are titanium plates, aluminum plates, kydex plates, and even cloth "plates". All weigh less, but the most you are saving is a few pounds. I never pack my dive bag that close to the 50 pound limit for it to matter. Then you have to add that much lead back in the water, and it may or may not be ideally situated like the weight of a plate is.

I use 2 different backplates & harnesses for cold & warm water because the of the length of the harness to fit over the thicker undergarments. Yes, it is quite a change. By having 2 sets of gear, I don't have to waste time resizing my harness to fit the thicker or thinner undergarments.
