OK...you guys are a bunch of geeks. I just had to re-install my machine (long story) and I lost a good deal of my mp3s...so sad.

I had been using Kazaa but wasn't super thrilled...anyone out there got a better suggestion for ripping off mp3s?

thx,
kkm

Napster was the best but now they are gone:(

I have heard Grokster is good but never used it . Some also like morpheus

Kazaa is EEEEEVIL!

Try running Ad-Aware after you've installed Kazaa and you'll be surprised to see how much crap that thing puts on your computer. Basically, they are watching everything you're downloading.

I always tell everyone to use WinMX. You can use it to browse the OpenNap network....old nets left over from Napster....and log on to some servers where people are sharing all kinds of stuff. You might want to download a server list or two (marked by a .wsx file extension) once you get the program up and running. The whole thing takes some getting used to, but it's much better in the long run.

And best of all....NO SPYWARE! :D

I use WinMX, too, but kinda got tired of the game. After Napster, Audiogallaxy was great but their library was decimated with law suits. I've been back at Tower, lately...

If you are looking for individual MP3's and video clips, Kazaa is a great platform. HOWEVER - Kazaa itself is horrid. Tons of spyware. So, go with Kazaa Lite. Same great taste, but it's less filling:

I love it.

However, I'm an MP3 snob. I hate individual MP3's - if I'm getting music, I want the whole album. For that, I use IRC. The only downside to IRC is that only very current things can be found on IRC, but it's still a really good source.

And of course, this information is not intended for actual use, it is for educational purposes only. Download music at your own risk, I do not encourage nor condone such behavior.

Try Direct Connect.
Mp3, movies, programs, games,etc...
Bad thing you have to share some gigs to get in, but you have access to some terabytes...

Kind of funny that of all my friends, family, and fellow workers that ask me to fix their box because of software problems.... Everyone has Kazaa. Kazaa sucks up rescources and loads so much garbage in the background it is not funny. Morpheuos does the same.

I use both Direct Connect and Kazaalite.

kazaalite is the easiest to use of the mentioned softwares and it's what I reccomend to newbies.

Most of them do that - they are all resource hogs. They have to pay the bills somehow so hence all of the spyware.

That's why my favorite is still IRC - you can't find any spyware in an IRC client :)
