just got my cable modem sorted and chuffed to bits - much better than that crappy old modem!!

I've had good luck with Copper.net. They provide plainjane service: no proprietary software, unlike aol and msn. You use whatever internet browser and email software you prefer; Internet Explorer and MS Outlook Express are probably resident on your machine already. There are no pop-up ads, looks like pretty good coverage as far as dial-up numbers go, there's fairly comprehensive access to newsgroups, and the annual fee (paid in advance) comes to $8.25 per month.

JT2 once bubbled...
I have lots of problems with AOL which I have had for 2 years, but I like it's easy to use features since nobody at my house is a computer guru, we have to keep things simple.

I solved the access problems with using AOL by using an independent ISP. My dial up connection is through the phone company (SWBell). Then I changed my AOL plan to the Bring Your Own Access option (its cheaper than their dial up rate).

My ISP bill is included in my phone bill, and then I just pay my AOL bill seperately. The total charge for both is about the same as using just AOL as your primary ISP.

To get online, I just click my dial up icon, then start AOL. Nothing complicated to using it.

and try Cable & Worthless. Watch your monthly bill for unlimited access go up to about $100US. It's a monopoly, and it sucks.

Rumor has it that ADSL is coming to Northside around February, and it will actually cost about the same as unlimited access dialup.

C&W is so miserable that there are still dead spots for cell phone coverage on Grand Cayman. Pathetic for an island that is only 23 miles long.
