I need to know what deco time your deco program gives for a dive to 130 feet for 50 minutes is on a 16/40 mix.

I don't know what you're after, or why anyone would be foolish enough to attempt this dive, but uhhhh...

4hrs runtime.

Hope that helps.

Its kind of like asking how long a piece of string is?

Do a search for Z planner. Its similar to V planner and freeware. You can choose between 3 diffrent types of stops and adjust conservitisim.
I did a couple of calcs and run times from 3 hours upto 7.5 hours using between 9000 Litres of gas to 18000 L. (636 cubic foot).

Of course this will greatly reduced if you used a deco gas.

Maybe Perrone will be kind enough to explain why you would be fooling doing that dive and how it could be done better instead of just calling it foolish.

rjack321:
Why is a Naui instructor asking these questions?

Just because you are a rec. instructor sure does not qualify you to have the knowledge about diving mix in most cases!

Foolish = burning up $200 worth of helium at 20ft. But my thoughts are addressed directly by rjack321

jtivat thanks for the reply.

texdiveguy thanks for stating the facts. Not sure why so many folks have trouble comprehending that concept.

To the rest-my computer is in the shop for repairs and I can't run V-planner right now. I am currently learning about deco and mixed gas diving. Generally when one is learning, one will have questions. Just thought I would ask for a favor.

BTW, beyond the specific run jtivat provided, his answer confirmed the concept that I was looking for---so again jtivat, a tip of the hat to you.

jbd,

I can't speak for anyone else, but I checked your profile, and found it bare. Your signature offers nothing to say that you are a technical diver. So I felt less than comfortable offering decompression dive advice to someone who might take it and try to do this dive on it somehow without proper training.

Had you indicated your intended purpose, and that you had v-planner but it was unavailable to you, I, and others might have felt differently.

Now, that said, I don't know HOW jtivat got his runtime of 161 minutes. on V-planner, I got 238 minutes or whatever using conservatism +2 and no deco gas because you didn't indicate any. A diver who might actually do a dive such as this would almost certainly NOT do it on 16/40 as it is an absolute waste. So your question set off red flags in my head. Others probably felt the same. Doing the same dive on air would get you out of the water much faser. Doing it on common normoxic would get out out of the water faster and cheaper. Doing it with normoxic and 50% would cut the time down tremendously, probably cut the cost of gas down by 2/3, and would almost certainly be the preferred method by most people I know.

Best of luck learning about deco and mixed gas diving with v-planner.

Given that decompression software is for sale and even free all over the place and tables and books can be baught about anywhere, I don't see much risk in an academic discussion of decompression schedules. Heck, ratio deco is even published online.
