Ever since we acquired the Kimber .45s I've considered using it as a carry, but like Adurso said, I'd hate to lose it in an investigation. Also, I'm not all together comfortable with the cocked and locked aspect with the manual safety being next to my body. If I squirm the wrong way and the safety deactivated (I know 1 in a million chance) the match trigger on that thing is so light I might blow my leg off accidentally. I do like that the G41 carries 13 rounds, but gee that must get heavy by the end of the day.

John Moses Browning himself designed the 1911 to be carried condition one

Do you really need to carry with one in the chamber?

Yes

If one needs to use a carry weapon it is going to be quick.

Drawing and racking a slide equals second place.

And we all know what second place means in a gunfight.

Yes, else you'll have to ask the bad guy doing bad things to wait while you get your pistol ready to stop him.

Elmer Keith?

A reason I still prefer the revolver for carry. Hammer on an empty cylinder, with a round indexed on the draw and cock. I also prefer single action. Not being in LE, I have somewhat different needs for my firearm.

For other uses I do keep a 9mm, and on it I also leave the chamber empty. For those uses I will have time to chamber a round if I need to use the weapon.

you are a democrat?

<ding> <ding> We have a winner.

I carry with an empty chamber. Too much risk for my taste. Self defense is like diving in that you need to practice. Since I carry with an empty chamber, I practice picking it up chambering a round and quickly firing.
