And your point is? What do you have against OLD people & REEF people-just asking coz I'm both.

Hiya, D2!

The history of the lionfish is that when it showed up in the Bahamas, everyone went, "oh, cute" and thought nothing of it. It multiplied exponentially, and had decimated many reef's populations of aquarium and game fish.

The Floridians are advocating and urging the immediate kill of lionfish so that the population doesn't boom as it has in other places. Most people think that REEF is too slow in recognizing the extreme impact of this voracious and prolific preditor. The "take note and report" attitude allows many offspring to be borne.

Thank you, Jax! D2, I hope that Jax' explanation answered your question. :blinking: And you sincerely are welcome to ask about them in the LIONFISH thread. We've discussed the REEF stance at great length in there, and we are very eager to educate divers about the problems that complacency is causing.

the map like shocked me i did not know they were that far up north :shocked2:

In the LIONFISH thread, we recently discussed that they have been seen as far north as New York.

Yes, one of my closest friends is a marine biologist and I asked him about this, it is absolutely, 100% untrue.

It's good to know I can keep killing these things. I am seeing them more and more. Killed one at Ftl. caves couple weeks ago. Saw one on the Mercedes wreck when i went back the next week it was gone. Hope someone killed it and it did not just leave.

mboyd, THANK YOU for helping eradicate the problem!
