Greetings Tiffany and welcome to Scuba Board and the diving community.
It can and will get better, probably even reach awesome before you know it!
If you can be determined to conquer the check out dive #4 you can overcome these issues as well. Allow yourself to feel a sense of achievement, YOU CAN DO IT!
Approach it with determination and commit to it. You already demonstrated a awesome attitude and awareness. The rest is diving with in your training and limits, slowly gaining experience and confidence as you go.
I would challenge you to join a club or group of local divers who are active both locally and traveling. With in this group you will identify a person or two who seem to want to help newer divers out. Just take your time and find a Mentor to help you on your journey. There is nothing wrong with DM's or Instructors if they are not charging for every dive because that can get expensive. The goal is to get you comfortable and confident as a individual diver. Everyone had the same feelings and anxieties you are feeling, these are normal and easily overcome.
Bob (Grateful Diver) has put it so very well and it is tough to add anything!
Gain mastery over your skills while building experience and this is achieved by diving on a regular basis. Get into the water every chance you get always following the rules of safe diving! HAVE FUN AND ENJOY THE JOURNEY! It is only beginning!
CamG Keep diving....keep training....keep learning!
