Yup. Last time was in a Pm about, oh, I think last September. Last time he was on scubaboard was may 23rd.

Yeh, last I talked to Mark he was doing abalone diving.
Now that IS a nice guy, to bring not one ( rather expensive) table for himself, but one for his buddy too! When I dove with him a few times he brought along an extra steel 120 for me to use. Super guy for sure.

I asked:

Does anybody have an answer?

I think Chuck has a link to various webcams in the area. If not Chuck, somebody else does. Try googling them. I had a link to a few, but sadly that hard drive crashed a while ago. And the one that I used to use a lot, New Page 1, hasn't had a webcam since they've moved. The links for weather still work though.

I usually look at the NOAA forecast for Monterey Bay, then the 560 forecast, then look at the actual buoy report (46042 buoy), then look at the tide tables. All of this is available online.

Ideally, you want to catch an incoming tide with the difference between high and low minimal-below, say, 3 feet. Generally, the vis is better on an incoming tide. The minimal swing between high and low helps minimize surge.
