Last Sunday the trail at Marineland was muddy. I hauled two sets of gear down the hill, only to find unfavorable dive conditions. After hauling the wagon back up the trail the tires were caked in mud. I decided to ride the wagon down a steep street to get mud from the tires. About halfway down I realized I was picking up too much speed. I tried to stop Fred Flintstone style, but rather then skid, my feet went under the tires, flipping me forward to the street. I tried to roll to avoid further injury, but the wagon on my feet stopped me from rolling. Even worse, I continued sliding about five feet. I have multiple abrasions on my heels, ankles, shins, hands, right forearm, elbow, bicep and shoulder. As soon as I stood up I knew I had broken my foot. I'll be in a cast for at least four weeks.
My application to Mensa was returned unopened.
Special thanks to Merry and Colonel Mel for the medical assistance.

That sucks! Guess you wont do that again!

Ouch, four weeks in a cast? What are you gonna do? Hopefully find a way into a drysuit and a scooter and say "screw you broken foot! I don't need you to dive! :D"

At least you have the guts to admit it!!!

Life is a lesson we all learn as we go!!

Stay safe.

OUCH! Been there done that in 1994 - but not on a wagon, slid down a wet incline while walking the dog...broken ankle in 2 places, long recouperation...sucks man. I feel for ya.

FYI, I know an instructor from Penn that broke his ankle and got a water proof cast. He kept teaching & taking students to the Keys without skipping a stroke (pun intended). He dove with only one fin and the shorty half of a 2pc wetsuit. He swam in circles and had a good DM to help & chase down stray students. But all the same he dove in a cast.

That sucks! Hope you heal fast.

The day we met you down there we had hiked our gear down. After seeing Ken's setup we decided the best wagon for Socal shore diving would be a powered one. Sounds like brakes might be a good thing too.

Ouch!!
Reminds me of a trip down a canyon road on an old style skateboard (rolleskate wheels). That did not work out so well either.

Get well soon!

Thanks for sharing. The supportive posts almost make me feel like I wouldn't get laughed off the board for my first Bike "crash" using "clipless" pedals, but no, I'm not as brave as you :)

Sorry to hear about that Phil. When your back on your feet, will have to do a Long Point dive together. Just got my steel 100 today, so I'm finally ready to dive with the Big Boy's. Hope you have a speedy recovery!
