I blinded everyone on the ascent line.

Not really, but I probably could have.

I'm wondering what you DIR divers do with your primary light when you go to deflate through your butt dump on ascent.
I'm not sure if I have this config right, but usually the can light goes on your left hand, correct? But most wings have their pull dump on the left as well.

Should you hold the can light in your right hand while you activate the dump, then slip your left hand back in the goodman handle afterwards?

Either just use your left hand but be conscious of where the beam is aimed and move it smoothly, or put it in a temporary hold with your right hand (a thumb loop or bungee helps here) while you vent your wing with your left.

I was afraid so. I'm currently sporting an Oxycheq Light sock with my primary light.
Guess I 'll have to loosen the bungee to slip it off my wrist easier.

Thanks for the quick response guys.

The other thing is that, if you are ascending on a line, you may well clip off and stow your light (not an option with what you are using, I realize).

But what's the problem? If you are on ascent, who is behind you to get blinded by your light?

Get a solid goodman handle. Move the light temporarily over to your right hand. Problem solved.

Yeah, just hold with right hand, the issue isn't just blinding your buddies, but most important, not giving bad signals with the light.
Have you placed a loop on the back for clipping it off a temporary park, that is the one meant specifically for not bliding your buddy

Move it to the right hand, and ditch the light sock. You found out why they are less than ideal :) I think thumb loops are great, you can even dump while you're on the scooter with ease.

I'm using a Oxycheq Raider III/IV Light sock with a Intova Mini Torch attached to it. No chance for me to attach a goodman handle to that.

I'm more of a DIR inspired diver. Most of the divers I dive with are either students in a class (in which case I'm diving as a buddy and not a leader of an entire group)

Or I'm diving on science dives in which case sometimes I'm on a transect line with divers behind me and I need to deflate while traversing over a large vertical obstacle.

Its tough with those. Even if you did put a goodman handle on it, your chances of dropping it and subsequently losing it are pretty high. With a can light, its attached to you all the time.

I don't know what's worse, coming slightly out of trim (god forbid..) to dump from the corrugated hose or blinding your buddy. I'd probably just dump from the corrugated hose and be done with it, but I really think light socks aren't a good answer.
