I am no "nature nazi" but was there a point to this hunt ...

i'm not about this particular one.

i'm assuming that there are types of hunts were the meat is not consumed, and
that there are hunters that don't kill for the meat.

you could make the same argument about hunting for the animal's fur,
though these days that's a very rare specialty. i don't know any poeple
who kill their own bears to make coats.

If the animal is consumed and it is hunted legally, I have no problems with the hunt. If it is otherwise, I have major problems.

What does it say when we pay others to kill and prepare our food for us, and then complain when someone else hunts?

I am not opposed to hunting. Been there, done that. Wacked a few animals myself for food or because they were a nuisance, disease-carrying vermin or sick.

I was unaware grizz and polar bears were numerous enough to hunt for any reason. Even so, it bothers me that bear was killed for what seems to be only the thrill of the hunt. If it was for food, that's different. But if it was just for the rug ... for shame.

i guess i'm having trouble understanding why a rug is different from the meat.

obviously, both have value to the hunter. there's no need to kill the bear
for food these days in our society ... so.... isn't that a sort of waste too,
using your logic?

i don't think it is. i think that if the hunter values the pelt, that's no more
a waste than killing the animal for food when you can go to the supermarket
and get meat from animals that were going to be slaughtered anyway.

this is all assuming that it is legal to take the particular animal.

Yes. Do it now.
Isn't beauty in the eye of the beholder?

Who wants an ugly coat?
Someone really fugly to detract attention from the wearer.
