I would like to bring forward the suggestion that we add an "I Agree" button to replace the "Thanks" button. I feel that this would be better suited to help people receive clear and concise information from users while reducing repetitive posts explaining the same ideas or explanations. I found while posting I would utilize the Thanks button for posts that I simply agreed with in order to reduce the number of similar posts that, when boiled down, basically stated "what he said".

I see no need to have an "I Agree" received counter in the users profile as it would serve no purpose. I do see a benefit for a new to the sport user like myself to be able to look at two completely different answers and seeing how many people agree on each answer. If for instance there is one post that has 2 people who agree with the answer provided Versus another post that has 11 people who agree with the stated information than it could help us seek out the most accurate or agreed upon information without spending as much time reading similar posts.

I can also see this making the threads more enjoyable to read as it would reduce the "deja vu" effect while reading through the posts.

There is, in my mind, no reason to ever have a one click negative or I disagree option. No on cares that you or I disagree with a post, they care about why, so if one does not want to take the time to state why ... then let's not waste time or resources on recording the disagreement. I'd say the same thing about one click agreement options but for the misuse of the thanks button, which should be reserved as an indicator of quality rather than agreement (which often are not the same thing).

There are no options admin wise to turn off who thanksed the post.

There is a "remove your thanks" option.

Doing the rest is possible, and not that complicated to do... if agreed upon.

Yeah, I still have scars from the last time we changed anything concerning that thanks button.

It's more of an either/or. We'd be modifying the "thanks" to say "I agree"

What I have done is checked to see that this can be done. Beyond that... is where it stands now.

IOW, we can modify the hack, but we can't install it twice without major conflicts.

Whilst it is possible to be thankful for a well written post that you disagree with, I suspect that is a pretty tiny minority of cases where the button is used.

I agree with the wisdom of the proposed change.

If it's an either/or situation, I'd stick with what we have. It works. An "I agree" button would eliminate thanking people for sharing insightful thoughts.
