Not to mention they're easier to pack.

I agree, but they weren't available for pickup as reserved. But that's another complaint about that move.

So he was wrong. But I don't think he was so far out of line that you need to be rude.

He wasn't wrong, he was deceptive.

First he says "which I have seen get as much as 125mpg"
Then he says they were able to achieve well over 100mpg under their testing conditions which I don't really recall."
Then he says "window sticker on an Insight...EPA...results in highway driving in the upper 80's near 90 mpg."

I can't argue what he seen ( going down hill with the gas pedel not pushed could easily say 125mpg) and I can't argue what some review with unkown testing conditions could produce, but when he comes out and claims the EPA says 90 he's out of his mind.

Fair enough.

Why do you have to lie to make your argument? The EPA sticker on the car WILL NOT say 90mpg. It will say 57/56 for the Automatic and 60/66 for the 5 speed manual.

Don't believe me? Read:

Well I am not lying about what I remember read on a Honda Insight window sticker. Now, it has been some time since I looked at one. I beleive the one I looked at was one of the first int he area and they have been a while. It is entirely possible that things may have changed in the past few years since the car was released or that my memory is a little fuzzy, but I still remember seeing a number in the 80's on that sticker.

As far as the test conditions that they achieved that 125mpg I really doubt they were real world driving since I remember reading that it was a contest put on by Honda to see which publications could achieve the best possible fuel economy.

And another thing....what i was refering to in the numbers on the insight was not the big bold print on the window sticker. Rather it was the fine print that says something like EPA testing has observed a range of xx to yy mpg with this vehicle which is just below those big bold numbers that are also found on that website.

Just did a little more research of my own, the 2000 Honday insight was rated to have better fuel efficiency. According to Intellichoice it was wated at 70mpg on the highway.

And check out this link, these are real world reports about its stellar fuel economy.

The range of xx yy is for that CLASS of vehicles, not expected results for that type of vehicle.

For your comment of "see what the highest number the publications could get" ..... oh please. I can make my wifes Sienna say that it gets 60mpg just by going down a hill with the foot off the gas. Don't ask me to repeat that cause now that I'm in TX there are no damn hills anymore.

You'll forgive me for not relying on a bunch of numbers posted by fanboy zealots under no controlled or documented tests.

And when the Insight came out it was the only one in its class. The Prius and Sentra CE (yes Nissan was trying to sell a hybrid too) were still a short while away from showrooms. THough it is possible that they could have been tested at the same times. Now i wish I hadn't thrown out all my old issues of Car and Driver and Motor Trend.

I have to agree that you can not believe everything you read ona web site, but I also have to believe that atleast one or two of those have to be legit. In that case it would be very possible to 80+ mpg out of an insight.

The important thing to keep in mind is that those numbers on the window are according to the manufacutrers and EPA just for comparrison and that ACTUAL results will vary.
