I have a bunch of HP100's, two HP130's, and recommended my friend to purchase the HP119's. If I had a choice the HP119's are what I would own. The 100's are just too small (Even when filled to 4200 psi), and the 130's work great but are a little heavy when full. Many dive shops will often produce short fills too. The extra capacity makes up for it, with little gains in weight, but most important, you can never have too much air.

Peter, do you really find the extra weight of the 130s to be that significant compared to the 119s? Assuming X8s you're talking 1 lb. more on the empty weight, and 0.8 lb. more gas (11.7 vs. 10.9 IIRR). As far as gas per pound, the 130s are a better deal. I could see it if you don't like their extra length or trim, but the weight doesn't seem to be that big an issue. I've got a friend with 119s and another with 120s, and I've got 100s and LP112s which are almost as heavy as the 130s, and taller. If you've got the height the 120s are great.

The 112s are a bit of a bear and I don't use them for rough entries or boat diving (given a choice), but I can put a lot of air in them if I overfill them, making them roughly equivalent to Faber FX-149s.

Thanks guys/gals for all the input. I decided to stay with the 100. No doubt either selection would remain in my collection for years to come -- tough to make a poor decision between the 2.

Thumbs up for SB resource! =)

The HP130's are definitely heavier when filled to a Peter fill, then my HP100's. The HP119's are my friends and I have never dove them. I did fill one yesterday though and it is still in my car. I am happy with my HP130's (Got a really good deal on two of them) and if we are going deeper I loan them to my friend since he has a fairly high gas consumption rate and it works out perfect. I say breathe all you want, just carry enough gas to not cut into your buddies time :cool2:

Dove with HP 100's for a few years and loved them the buoyancy characteristics are great for the X-7 Worthington's -10 full - 2 1/2 empty and only 35 lbs on land, now I have doubled the up and still love them. Your decision should be based on the type of dives you do and your SAC rate, they were fine for me as the No Deco time was what limited my dives when I dove with the single HP 100.

I have decided to pull the trigger on a HP steel without being able to test the differences between sizes. I'm looking to add a good all around steel to my equipment as my primary. I aim to play on the reef for longer and am interested in beginning to explore caverns. Any recommendations?

I have notified the local dealer and requested a 100 -- wish I had waited for some more input but can probably catch him before the order is processed tomorrow.

Regards,
Sam

Sounds like you are an experienced diver, so you probably have a good idea how much air you need. Do you know what your air consumption is?

My wife and I love our HP-100's for San Diego cold water, for both air and Nitrox diving. AL80's are fine for us in the tropics.

All that said, I have to tell you I have never almost died because I had too much air.
